A good grip is everything in golf

By challengersclub2008

As junior golfers play more and more golf, they realize what they’re good at and need to work on. Some drawbacks can be compensated with other skills, like an average driver of the ball could become a better putter of the ball and still maintain his place in the field.

But there’s one thing you can’t compromise on if you want to play good golf, your grip. It has to be good. You can’t make up for a bad grip with anything, except maybe an amiable personality to win you friends among golfers.

Here are three grips where the left and right hands work together.

1.  The Interlock: The left index finger interlocks with the pinky or little finger on the right hand.

2. The Overlap: The right little finger rests between the left middle and index fingers.

3. The Side-by-Side: All fingers grip the club, with the hands just touching each other.

Here are three points to ensure your hands are well positioned.

1. The “v” formed between the thumb and the index finger on the left hand should point to your right shoulder. This would be just the opposite for left handed golfers.

2. The “v” formed between the thumb and index finger on the right hand needs to point to your right shoulder.

3. When you look down at the golf club you should be able to see the first two knuckles of the left hand, the index finger and the middle finger.

A good golf grip is light but firm. Light enough to encourage speed and firm enough to ensure directional control without compromising on feel or speed. Remember with a good grip, golf becomes an easier game. Junior golfers work hard on their game and may need golfing advice. Challenger’s Club is a place where golfers can share knowledge and experience, freely. We offer a great launch pad for junior golfers and you could either contribute to a golfer’s game or benefit from the experience.
